FociSpot immunostaining of influenza A nucleoprotein in infected MDCK cells. MDCK cells were infected with influenza A virus (titrated, virus dilutions 2,000x, 4,000x, and 8,000x are shown). After fixation and permeabilization, foci were detected using anti-influenza A (NP) mAb 19C10, followed by Streptavidin-ALP and BCIP/NBT-plus substrate. Foci were counted using the Apex software in Mabtech IRIS 2.

NP plays a role in replication, transcription, RNA packaging, and nuclear trafficking.
