What is CD28?

CD28 (cluster of differentiation 28) is a 44 kDa homodimeric transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. CD28 is mainly expressed on T cells, including thymocytes and may be found on plasmablasts. CD28 binds to CD80 (B7.1) and CD86 (B7.2), both being expressed by antigen-presenting cells, providing co-stimulatory signals to T cells via its intracellular domain.
